Bangkok Airways’ Net Loss Increases to THB8.6 Billion in 2021 as Air Travel Remains Slow

Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited (SET: BA) announced its 2021 consolidated financial statement through the Stock Exchange of Thailand as follows;

BA reported a net loss for the fiscal year 2021 at THB8,599.8 million compared to the net loss of THB5,283.2 million from the previous year, and EBITDA was THB1,294.4 million.

The total revenue year 2021 reported at THB5,668.5 million, decreased by 44.5 percent from the same period last year. That mainly resulted from a decline of passenger revenue from airline business by 78.7 percent, airport business decreased by 75.7 percent. Also, the revenue from airport-related businesses dropped by 20.1 percent. The downturn resulted from the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Thailand starting in April 2021, in which BA temporarily suspended flights during July until September of the year 2021. 

Even though the government launched the tourism sandbox scheme in July 2021 and Thailand’s re-opening project in November 2021, the number of passengers flown in the fourth quarter of this year decreased by 23.5 percent compared to the previous year. 

In 2021, BA carried 0.5 million passengers, lowered by 71.5 percent. The passenger load factor reported at 58.6 percent and the average fare of THB2,118.5 per sector, dropped by 28.2 percent compared to the year 2020.

 

In addition, The Board of Directors’ Meeting held on 24 February 2022 approved the omission of dividend payment as loss for business operation during 1 January– 31 December 2021.
