RCL 1Q22 Earnings Jump 180% amid Surging Freight Income from Limited Global Capacity

Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (SET: RCL) has announced its 1Q22 consolidated financial statement through the Stock Exchange of Thailand as follows;

RCL reported a net profit of 8,222 million baht in 1Q22, increased 179% from a net profit of 2,941 million baht in 1Q21.

The company stated that the volume handled grew by 11% to above 572,000 TEUs. In addition, prolonging port congestion and hence reduced global capacity led to an 86% upsurge in freight income per TEU to more than 25,000 baht. These translate into a 106% increase in revenue.

Amid surging oil price, RCL sated that it had taken necessary actions to mitigate the impact while keeping service levels acceptable and still able to expand its business activities. These measures managed to contain the increase in expenses to 56% YoY.
