CKPower Public Company Limited (SET: CKP), one of the largest producers of renewables-based electricity with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the region, today (25 July), was honored by Enterprise Asia, a leading non-governmental organization that promotes responsible entrepreneurship in Asia, at Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2022 in the ‘Social Empowerment’ Category for its outstanding initiative known as Hinghoi Project. This corporate social responsibility program by CKPower is in its sixth year running. It aims to make good social value contribution (Competency-Co-Creation-Cooperation-Connection) to and in harmony with communities around the company’s power plants and remote areas in Thailand and the Lao PDR.
Mr. Thanawat Trivisvavet, Managing Director, CKPower PCL, said, “CKPower, we are one of the largest producers of renewables-based electricity with one of the lowest carbon footprints in the region. We give importance to continuous commitment to sustainable development on the part of our organization and society through Hinghoi Project, which is CKPower’s principal corporate social responsibility initiatives. The Hinghoi initiative resulted from our survey of the local communities to learn how they are like and what they need in terms of basic public utilities such as water supply and electricity as well as education since we want children and youngsters to have equal access to basic education and to have an environment conducive to learning. The award CKPower received at Asia Responsible Enterprise Awards 2022 (AREA 2022) in the Social Empowerment Category gives us a major boost to work even harder in socially responsible manner as we give importance to the environment in a way that is in harmony with the local communities. This achievement is only made possible with the support of our partners and the communities as well as all CKPower volunteers who contribute their physical strength, heart and soul to ensuring sustainable, tangible results for the Hinghoi Project, which deserves prestigious recognition.”
The goal of Hinghoi Project is to use CKPower’s expertise and knowhow in engineering with respect to electricity generation from renewables and clean energy resources to make positive social value contribution by joint development together with the communities such as building small hydropower turbine, energy-saving school buildings, solar-powered pump for elevated water tank, etc.
Over the past six years, the Hinghoi Project has provided CKPower with the opportunity to benefit the public in Thailand and the Lao PDR in a form of 40 public utility structures. Around 1,700 children and youths in 8 local communities have benefited from the public utilities brought about by the project. From one generation to another, the project has shared knowledge on renewable energy with local communities and society through 7 learning centers. Community members can learn from, for example, a small hydropower turbine, a solar-powered school building, a solar-powered pump for elevated water tank and a solar-powered road lighting systems. These efforts have contributed by 800 CKPower volunteers in collaboration with 16 relevant agencies on the main mission to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
“We hope to build a giver DNA among CKPower’s staff by channeling our knowledge and experiences in engineering into social value creation through the company’s CSR strategy to add value to society; the “Competency-Co-Creation-Cooperation-Connection” strategy. “Competency” is where CKPower uses its capabilities to empower communities, society and stakeholders. “Co-Creation” is the use of innovative ideas and processes for sustainable development. “Cooperation” is the engagement of employees with stakeholders, leading to “Connection” which is the connection with value co-creation partners to sustainably strengthen and empower society.”, said Mr. Thanawat.
