Former Energy Absolute’s Executives Face Lawsuit over Alleged Fraud

Yesterday, Thailand’s Office of the Attorney General (AGO) issued a criminal lawsuit against three former executives of Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (SET: EA).

Mr. Somphote Ahunai, former Chief Executive Officer of EA, Mr. Amorn Sapthaweekul and Mr. Phornlert Techarattanopas are being charged for corruption in the purchasing of equipment for the solar power plant project, causing damage worth a total of THB 3.46 billion to the company.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed the charge, which indicates that between 2013 – 2015, the three individuals colluded to commit corruption in the purchasing of equipment from abroad and the purchasing of software programs for use in EA’s solar power plant construction project through two subsidiaries for their own beneficiary.

These cases are being processed by the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and the AGO.

Regarding rumors on social media that Mr. Somphote has already left the country to escape prosecution, he told ‘Kaohoon Turakij’ that the rumor is inaccurate and that he has no intention of fleeing. Currently, he is traveling overseas on a pre-plan schedule and will return to Thailand on Friday (27 June 2025).
