SET Index Rises as BDMS and CPALL Lead Gains

Mr. Wijit Arayapisit, Investment Strategist from Liberator Securities, stated that the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index edged up slightly by 3.14 points to 1,287.95 points this morning, mainly supported by international factors after the U.S. government shutdown issue was resolved.

Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate passed a bill to end the shutdown, and this morning, the House of Representatives also approved a temporary budget bill. Most recently, President Donald Trump has already signed the bill into law.

Mr. Wijit anticipated that the period of 1 – 2 weeks after the U.S. government operation returned to normal will be a short term positive factor. This is because the government agency will gradually release economic data, such as U.S. non-farm payrolls and PCE figures. This information is essential as it will help the investor assess how the U.S. Federal Reserve adjusted the interest rate at its December meeting.

Domestically, the Thai market is entering the final phase of listed companies’ earnings reports. Weaker-than-expected growth momentum has triggered sell-offs in stocks with disappointing results, which pressured the index despite positive international factors. Conversely, stocks outperforming expectations have attracted buying, such as BDMS and SPRC.

For the afternoon outlook, the market is expected to trade higher as long as it holds above 1,280 points, with support at 1,280 and resistance at 1,300.
