Influential Thai Business and Healthcare Leader Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth Passes Away at 93

On April 21, 2026, Dr. Prasert Prasarttong-Osoth, founder of Bangkok Dusit Medical Services Public Company Limited (SET: BDMS) and founder of Bangkok Airways Public Company Limited (SET: BA), passed away at the age of 93 after a lengthy hospitalization. This marks a significant loss for both Thailand’s business and healthcare sectors.

Dr. Prasert was born on March 22, 1933, and obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University. He began his career in medicine before expanding his influence into the business sector, ultimately becoming a leading figure in Thailand’s private hospital and airline industries.

Throughout his business career, Dr. Prasert played a key role in growing the Bangkok Hospital group into one of the largest groups of private hospitals in the country, while also pioneering Bangkok Airways. 

According to information from Bangkok Airways, he held the position of founder and chairman of the board. The 2025 ranking of Thailand’s stock market billionaires put Dr. Prasert in third place, with shares valued at THB 33,062.33 million through his holdings in BDMS and BA.

The funeral rites will be held at Wat Thepsirintrawat Ratchaworawihan. On April 22, 2026, at 15:00, the bathing ceremony for the deceased will take place, followed at 17:00 by the royal water-pouring rite, and at 18:00 by the Buddhist funeral chant. From April 23 to 28, 2026, the Buddhist funeral chant will be conducted daily at 18:30 before the body is kept for 100 days.
