KBANK Posts Steady 6% Profit Growth in 2Q26 Amid NIM Pressure

Kasikornbank Public Company Limited (SET: KBANK) has reported a net profit of 13,247 million baht for the second quarter of 2026, representing a 6.08% increase compared to the 12,488 million baht recorded during the same period in 2025. This resilient performance highlights the bank’s ability to navigate a challenging economic landscape marked by slowing domestic growth and external headwinds.

The bank’s top-line results were characterized by a shift in revenue streams. Net interest income (NII) declined 9.30% year-on-year to 31,432 million baht. This contraction was primarily attributed to a downward trend in interest rates and the bank’s strategic decision to reduce rates to enhance customer liquidity. Consequently, the net interest margin (NIM) narrowed significantly to 2.90%, compared to 3.31% in the second quarter of 2025.

Offsetting the pressure on interest income was a robust 31.18% surge in non-interest income, which climbed to 18,291 million baht. This growth was fueled by a rise in net fees and service income—particularly from wealth management—and increased gains on financial instruments measured at fair value through profit or loss. As a result, total operating income for the quarter rose slightly to 49,723 million baht.

KBANK’s balance sheet remains stable with a focus on quality. Loans to customers reached 2,558,943 million baht, a 5.13% year-on-year expansion from 2,433,982 million baht, driven largely by corporate business loans. Despite the lending growth, the gross NPL ratio was held steady at 3.18%, matching the level reported in June 2025. The bank maintained a prudent approach to risk, setting aside 10,019 million baht in expected credit loss (ECL), nearly unchanged from the 10,050 million baht provisioned a year earlier.

Operational efficiency remained a priority, with other operating expenses marginally decreasing to 20,750 million baht. Moving into the second half of 2026, KBANK continues to monitor global volatility and domestic inflation, which remain key challenges to Thailand’s economic recovery.
