SET Index Tracks Regional Decline Amid Investor Concerns Over Inflation

On Friday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,604.76 points, showing a decrease of 10.31 points or 0.64%, with a trading value of THB 43.26 billion.

Maybank Securities (Thailand) stated that the Thai stock market opened lower this morning, moving in line with regional markets. The decline was pressured by a continued surge in crude oil prices, which has fueled concerns over inflation and driven up U.S. government bond yields. This, in turn, has weighed on risk assets across the board.

Investors are closely watching for the release of U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data tonight, an event expected to offer guidance on future interest rate direction in the upcoming Federal Reserve meeting.

Notably, equities saw declines across various sectors. However, commodity-related stocks continued to post gains.

For the afternoon, the brokerage anticipates the market will remain in negative territory, hovering around the 1,600-point level. Key technical levels are pegged at a support of 1,590 points and resistance at 1,610 points.

The five securities with the highest trading value were as follows:
