GE Vernova and Thailand’s B.Grimm Power have agreed on two power-sector agreements covering Malaysia and Thailand. The deals add equipment supply and long-term maintenance commitments tied to gas-fired generation assets in Southeast Asia.
One agreement covers GE Vernova’s provision of a gas turbine and related generator for a Malaysian power project being developed and owned by B.Grimm Power Public Company Limited (SET: BGRIM).
The delivery of the turbines is scheduled for next year, according to Dr. Harald Link, BGRIM Chairman, at the Gastech 2026 conference in Bangkok on Tuesday. He also said the project, located in Perlis state in Malaysia, is expected to begin commercial operations in the fourth quarter of 2029.
Mr. Nopadej Karnasuta, President of Thailand, Malaysia and Energy & Industrial Solutions Business at BGRIM added at Malaysia is another market of interest, with energy challenges similar to Vietnam and electricity demand expected to grow alongside annual economic expansion of around 6 – 7%. BGRIM currently has around 200 MW of solar projects in Malaysia and another 400 MW in the pipeline. The company is also studying a 1,500 MW natural gas-fired power plant with partners, with a conclusion expected by the end of this year. Total projects in Malaysia amount to around 2,100 MW.
The second signing is a 14-year service contract covering five LM6000 gas turbine packages. Those units are installed at B.Grimm Power’s Bangkadi 1 and Bangkadi 2 plants in Thailand and will be supported for long-term operations. Both Bangkadi 1 and 2 are combined cycle co-generation power plants with an installed capacity of 115 MW each.
In Thailand, BGRIM is awaiting clarity on the country’s power development plan 2026 (PDP 2026). The company believes the key priority should be making full use of existing power generation capacity, especially plants capable of producing both electricity and steam to serve industrial customers.
The company aims to raise the share of renewable energy to more than 50% by 2030 and to expand its investment capacity to 10,000 megawatts, combining operating projects and those under development by 2030.
The agreements were signed at the Gastech exhibition and conference in Bangkok.
Dr. Harald Link, Chairman of BGRIM, said the company’s participation in Gastech 2026 reaffirms its “GreenLeap – Global and Green” strategy, which focuses on expanding and diversifying its renewable energy asset base—both geographically and technologically—while strengthening energy security. The strategy centers on producing high-quality electricity with strong availability and stability, alongside continued expansion of investment with partners both in Thailand and abroad to develop efficient, environmentally friendly energy solutions.
