Koraphat Vorachet, Assistant Director and Division Head of Research at Krungsri Securities (KSS), told “Kaohoon” that the short-term impact of the flood situation on the retail sector could pressure consumer purchasing power, as residents in affected areas delay non-essential spending while travel and local business operations in certain areas remain disrupted.
However, upon entering the post-flood recovery period, demand for products used in home repair and renovation is expected to increase, particularly within construction materials and repair-related items.
According to the analyst, home repair and improvement retailers highlighted as worth monitoring include HMPRO, GLOBAL, DOHOME, and MRDIYT. MRDIYT operates a home improvement and lifestyle retail business, offering product categories spanning hardware and tools, household items, home decor, and electrical appliances.
Consequently, the overall impact of the flood situation on the Thai stock market will depend on the scale and duration of the hit to purchasing power, as well as the speed of transition into the recovery phase. While general consumer retailers may face short-term headwinds, HMPRO, GLOBAL, DOHOME, and MRDIYT represent retail equities with operations directly tied to home goods, repair, and residential renovation, allowing investors to continuously monitor the ongoing impacts from post-flood recovery efforts.
