SET Index Edges Up as Easing Treasury Yields and Oil Prices Provide Support

On Friday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,573.35 points, showing an increase of 2.74 points or 0.17%, with a trading value of THB 29.04 billion.

Land and Houses Securities (LHS) stated that the Thai stock market traded sideways-up this morning, supported by a decline in U.S. Treasury yields for both the 10-year and 30-year bonds following strong demand in a recent U.S. government bond auction, while lower oil prices also provided support.

Shares in the power plant sector were particularly strong, led by GPSC, GULF, and BGRIM. This was attributed to expectations that the 2026 Power Development Plan was nearing its conclusion. The appreciation of the Thai baht, also supported by falling bond yields, further contributed to positive sentiment. Additionally, shares in the finance sector saw gains, amid slight selling pressure in DELTA.

Looking ahead to the afternoon session, the market is expected to trade sideways within a limited range, as there are no new catalysts. The projected index range is 1,560-1,580 points. Should the index approach resistance levels, profit-taking activity could emerge, according to the brokerage.

LHS recommends investors monitor oil prices, especially with news suggesting the U.S. is unlikely to launch an attack on Iran prior to the midterm elections and with the upcoming U.S. CPI inflation data due next week.
