Advanced Wireless Network Co., Ltd. (AWN), a subsidiary under Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (SET: ADVANC or AIS), has emerged victorious in the bid for the 2100 MHz spectrum, securing three blocks totaling 30 MHz at a price of THB 14.85 billion. The auction, organized by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s ongoing digital infrastructure development.
Somchai Lertsutiwong, CEO of AIS, expressed his contentment, stating, “We are delighted with the outcome of this auction, having secured the desired spectrum that is immediately available for use, at a price that is reasonable for long-term investment. Possessing the 2100 MHz license allows AIS to efficiently support the increasing needs of our customer base. It elevates our already comprehensive 5G network, enhancing user experiences in terms of quality and speed, and ensures our readiness to accommodate future technologies. This success reaffirms our mission to drive Thailand forward with robust and sustainable digital infrastructure.”
The 2100 MHz spectrum falls within the Mid Band frequency range, currently essential for mobile telecommunications services due to its coverage capabilities and capacity to handle dense traffic, particularly in 4G and 5G technologies.
This auction is part of AIS’s commitment to investing in network development and innovation. The company plans to maximize the newly acquired spectrum for immediate benefit across service provision, network expansion, and innovation enhancement. AIS aims to ensure equal access to digital technology for Thais, supporting the nation’s economic growth in a sustainable manner.
The NBTC will hold a meeting to formally ratify the auction results shortly.
