GUNKUL to Benefit from Government’s 1,500 MW People’s Solar Project

Auttapol Rerkpiboon, Minister of Energy, revealed on his first official day in office (25 September 2025) that his top urgent task is to appoint senior executives in key agencies under the Ministry of Energy, such as the Director of the Oil Fuel Fund Office, the Governor of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), and the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC).

These appointments aim to ensure smooth policy execution, alongside a review of the national Power Development Plan (PDP) to better align with current circumstances.

The draft of the government’s policy, which will soon be presented to parliament, outlines the direction for short-term national administration, focusing on four key issues: economy, security, environment and natural disaster management, as well as social problems.

On the economic side, the Ministry of Energy must oversee energy prices, particularly as energy costs tend to rise at year-end. The Ministry will examine in detail how to manage this so that energy prices do not become a burden for the public.

Regarding measures to lower electricity bills, further study is required, but it is confirmed that energy costs will not be allowed to weigh on people.

Next week, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul’s government will deliver its policy address. Thereafter, the Ministry of Energy is ready to launch urgent missions to drive national energy policy, with the main goal of reducing people’s energy expenses—a top priority, especially as energy prices are likely to rise toward the end of the year.

Besides controlling energy prices, urgent policies also aim to promote a low-carbon society and clean energy to push Thailand toward the Net Zero target. One important plan is the People’s Solar Project, which aims for a capacity of 1,500 megawatts, allowing the public to benefit more from green energy.

Yuanta Securities (Thailand) stated that Minister Attapol is ready to move forward with quick-win energy policies, managing electricity and oil prices to ensure they are not a public burden, while advancing clean energy and pushing for community solar projects, and expediting the PDP. These urgent policy addresses will be announced next week.

Community and household solar power projects are viewed as positive sentiment drivers for companies such as Gunkul Engineering Public Company Limited (SET: GUNKUL), Energy Absolute Public Company Limited (SET: EA), Sermsang Power Corporation Public Company Limited (SET: SSP), Porn Prom Metal Public Company Limited (mai: PPM), and Kitcharoen Engineering Electric Public Company Limited (mai: KJL).

Yesterday (25 September 2025), GUNKUL’s share price rose by 3.14% to close at THB 1.97, with a total trading value of THB 112 million.
