UnionPay International (UPI) has partnered with National ITMX Co., Ltd (NITMX) to jointly promote the integration of UnionPay payment information with Thailand’s PromptPay., enhancing the digital payment experience for Chinese visitors.
Through this partnership, the usage of UnionPay App (YunShanFu) mobile payment and bank apps with UnionPay App SDK mobile payment in Thailand will expand to majority of PromptPay-accepting merchants of selected major banks in Thailand, across popular travel destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, and Chiangmai. UnionPay users can use their familiar apps to scan the PromptPay QR code to pay as in China, realising “Scan like you’re in China”.

PromptPay, Thailand’s national QR launched in 2016 has been widely adopted by local financial institutions and businesses. In response to this trend, UnionPay collaborated with NITMX by integrating UnionPay’s QR code payment service to support PromptPay, ensuring seamless and secure transactions for UnionPay users.
Thailand’s digital payment landscape continues to grow, as reflected in a 2024 research1, which shows that Thailand’s gross transaction value for digital payments reached an estimate of 141 billion U.S. dollars, marking a five percent increase from the previous year. This is supported by another report2 that Thailand’s total transaction value will grow to a 21.47% CAGR from 2025 to 2029.
