On November 21, 2025, Mr. Wittayakorn Maneenetr, Director General Department of Internal Trade (DIT), stated that the price of main season paddy rice for the 2025/26 production year has clearly improved.
This followed a meeting of the National Rice Policy and Management Committee (NRPMC) on November 18, 2025, which announced urgent measures to absorb excess paddy rice supply from the system, including delayed sales, rice storage deposits, and the acceleration of paddy rice markets nationwide. These measures aim to support prices, create markets, and increase farmers’ income during the peak harvest period.
The latest price situation as of November 20, 2025, confirms that these measures are starting to show results. The price of paddy rice with 15% moisture content has increased across almost all varieties: jasmine paddy is now at THB 14,700–16,100 per ton; Pathum Thani paddy at THB 8,000–8,300 per ton; white paddy at THB 6,300–7,200 per ton; and glutinous paddy at THB 7,000–10,000 per ton.
Jasmine paddy prices have risen by as much as THB 1,000 per ton, and white paddy has increased by up to THB 400 per ton compared to the same period last week (November 14, 2025). This is the fastest price adjustment seen in years.
Mr. Wittayakorn stated that the nationwide paddy rice market initiative, organized by the Department of Internal Trade in cooperation with provincial commerce offices, began on November 10, 2025. More than 50 events will be held across 32 provinces until April 2026. The paddy rice markets enable operators to buy rice directly from farmers, reducing logistics costs and expanding sales channels for farmers.
According to operations so far, rice prices in these markets are on average THB 200–400 per ton higher than general market prices. This has spurred a rapid price increase in many provinces. The Department of Internal Trade is also closely monitoring rice trading in the field to ensure fair and transparent transactions for farmers.
Additionally, at the November 18, 2025 NRPMC meeting, chaired by Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, a resolution was passed in principle to implement measures under the “New Rice Economy” framework.
The short-term measures focus on managing surplus white rice, including the 2025/26 main season paddy rice absorption project, targeting 3 million tons with a budget of THB 1.68 billion to absorb market supply and discharge it as appropriate based on market conditions. There are also plans to process paddy into bagged rice for distribution to agencies with real demand, such as the Department of Corrections, Ministry of Justice, military, and other government agencies.
