Anthropic and SpaceXAI Signs Exclusive Supercomputer Deal

SpaceXAI and Anthropic have finalized an agreement granting the AI firm sole use of the Colossus 1 supercomputer, a cornerstone asset in the global market for artificial intelligence infrastructure. The collaboration provides Anthropic with an immediate and substantial computing boost, while establishing SpaceXAI as a key supplier of advanced AI hardware.

Under the terms of the agreement, Anthropic gains exclusive access to the total capacity of Colossus 1, a Memphis-based supercomputing cluster operating with more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs, including H100, H200, and forthcoming GB200 chips. The facility, delivering over 300 megawatts of power, ranks among the largest and most capable AI compute installations worldwide.

Effective immediately, Anthropic will allocate all of Colossus 1’s resources to its operations. Customers of Claude Pro, Max, and Team services are expected to see a doubling of rate limits for Claude Code, alongside significant increases in Opus model API capacities.

For SpaceXAI, the deal represents a conversion of significant hardware investments into a commercial revenue stream, solidifying its status as a leading infrastructure provider as the company approaches an anticipated public offering.

Looking beyond terrestrial solutions, both companies have indicated a joint interest in pursuing large-scale, space-based AI compute projects. With limitations in ground-based power and cooling, orbital computing is viewed as a potential next phase, offering expanded, sustainable capacity with reduced environmental demands.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk emphasized that his company’s launch capabilities and cost efficiency are uniquely suited to advance orbital supercomputing initiatives.

This partnership follows Anthropic’s earlier major infrastructure commitments with leading cloud providers such as Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. SpaceX, meanwhile, is advancing its vertical integration strategy, with regulatory filings pointing to a $55 billion chip manufacturing project slated for Texas. The agreement—dubbed the “Colossus Alliance”—reflects a period of resource consolidation in the competitive AI sector, with Musk remarking positively on recent discussions with Anthropic leadership.
