Disorder at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport Triggers Security Review And Disciplinary Action

Following the circulation of a video on social media regarding the conduct of security personnel at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), the airport confirms that disciplinary action has been taken against the personnel involved and sincerely apologizes for the incident. The sequence of events is as follows.

The incident occurred on 29 July 2026 at approximately 11:00 p.m., involving a group of fans of a Chinese artist who were passengers on Thai Airways flight TG674 from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Beijing.

The group followed the artist into an airline lounge despite not being authorized to use the facility. Thai Airways personnel therefore requested assistance from airport security officers, who escorted the group out of the lounge.

The group continued to follow the artist into the departure hold room. At the boarding document checkpoint, they refused to cooperate with boarding pass checks and attempted to rush after the artist in order to board the aircraft together. They continued following the artist to the passenger boarding bridge until the artist had boarded the aircraft.

To prevent passengers who had not completed the required boarding pass verification from entering the aircraft, airline personnel temporarily closed the aircraft door. Airport security officers, together with airline staff, then escorted the group back to the departure hold room.

As a result of the incident, Thai Airways denied boarding to all 22 members of the fan group for failing to comply with airport security procedures and airline regulations. The airline determined that allowing the group to travel could lead to further disruption on board, potentially jeopardizing the safety and orderly operation of the flight. Consequently, the departure was delayed.

Following the denial of boarding, 12 passengers agreed to have their checked baggage offloaded from the aircraft, while the remaining 10 refused. Those passengers expressed dissatisfaction with the airline’s decision and behaved provocatively toward security officers during the operation, resulting in a physical altercation while officers attempted to control the situation. This is the incident shown in the video circulating on social media. Responsibility for the situation was subsequently handed over to airline personnel for further handling.

While the security officers’ intervention was intended to ensure the safety and security of passengers and flight operations, Suvarnabhumi Airport acknowledges that certain security personnel displayed inappropriate conduct during the operation. Such conduct does not meet the airport’s service standards or operational regulations.

Gp. Captain Chanannut Rodkul, Director of the Airport Security Department, has ordered disciplinary action against the personnel involved. He has also instructed all security personnel to strictly adhere to operational standards, exercise professionalism and emotional restraint, and treat all airport users appropriately under all circumstances.

Furthermore, Suvarnabhumi Airport will review this incident and strengthen its incident management procedures and operational oversight to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

Suvarnabhumi Airport once again apologizes for the incident and reaffirms its commitment to strengthening oversight of its personnel to ensure that airport security is maintained alongside professional and appropriate service standards in accordance with international best practices.
