ASL Recommends Five Picks For Accumulation as Thai Bourse Set for Downturn

Mr. Suchet Suktae, Deputy Managing Director, Media Marketing Department of ASL Securities, stated during the “Kaohoon” program on August 18, 2026, that the Thai stock market may potentially decline in line with global sentiment following the U.S. market that closed lower in the previous session. Furthermore, most Asian markets—including Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Singapore, and the Philippines—are also trending downward.

ASL set preliminary support levels for the SET Index at 1,606 and 1,618 points but noted that there are opportunities for a breakthrough. Investors are advised to exercise caution, avoid chasing prices, and wait for pullbacks to accumulate.

Energy and oil stocks are currently the standout sector due to rising crude oil prices, with Brent at $91 per barrel and WTI at $85 per barrel, which is positive for oil-related businesses. However, power plant stocks may face pressure from rising energy costs.

For specific stocks, ASL recommends MTC, citing overall positive financial sector results despite limited price movement. The recommended strategy is to accumulate on weakness, with a support level at THB 31.75 and a resistance level at THB 34.75-35.00.

In the industrial estate sector, WHA is highlighted for its promising growth outlook, especially alongside AMATA, while both WHA and ROJNA could see upward movement linked to investment flows. ASL suggests accumulating WHA during pullbacks, with support at THB 4.00 – 4.50 and resistance at THB 5.30.

PTTEP is a fundamentally strong stock benefiting from the uptrend in global oil prices, Mr. Suchet remarked, with the potential to revisit a resistance level at THB 150, and further level at THB 155, where profit-taking may occur. Overall, oil stocks are supported by rising energy prices, and have shown growth in both sales and profit, making the oil segment more attractive than power plant stocks, which remain average in performance.

THAI is expected to rebound, having faced previous pressure from various factors. The support is at THB 5.50, with the potential to test the resistance at THB 6.50.

Among retail stocks, GLOBAL has the strongest performance, while DOHOME, HMPRO, and ILM are suitable for speculative trades or accumulation on pullbacks. HMPRO has resistance at THB 6.50 – 7.00.

Mr. Suchet added that, based on the latest quarterly results, the most outstanding sectors are banking, electronics components, and energy. However, share prices in banking and electronics have already risen significantly, warranting caution. Conversely, hospitals and food sectors remain weaker performers due to limited revenue growth, while industrial estate firms are more attractive than the general property sector.

Additionally, stocks linked to the data center theme—including bank, energy, water, electronics, and ICT groups—are expected to benefit more from investment than real sector stocks tied directly to consumption.
