BCPG Public Company Limited (SET: BCPG) participated in a panel discussion on “Powering ASEAN: Energy Intensity” at Asia Forum 2026, with Punjaphol Srihong, Senior Executive Vice President, Operation, representing the company as a panelist. Organized by the Thailand Management Association (TMA), the session explored key energy trends and challenges facing ASEAN, including energy costs, energy security, the transition to clean energy, and the development of the ASEAN Power Grid (APG).
According to Punjaphol, Thailand’s energy transition requires a balance among the government, electricity users, and the private sector. Promoting an open and competitive electricity market would help improve market efficiency, foster fair competition, and support electricity prices that better reflect actual costs.
For ASEAN’s transition to clean energy, he noted that the energy system during the transition period should combine reliable energy sources with renewable energy and energy storage technologies. This approach would help manage the variability of renewable power generation and maintain grid stability, while clean energy technologies and supporting infrastructure continue to advance.
Regarding the ASEAN Power Grid (APG), Punjaphol highlighted its potential to improve the efficiency of the region’s energy resources by connecting countries with different energy strengths. Thailand, for example, has strong solar potential, while Laos has abundant hydropower and wind resources, and Malaysia has natural gas and oil resources. Cross-border power interconnections could enable ASEAN countries to leverage these complementary energy resources more efficiently.
BCPG has experience developing and investing in renewable energy projects across ASEAN, including wind and hydropower projects in Laos that supply electricity to Vietnam. These projects serve as practical examples of cross-border electricity trading and regional energy connectivity already in operation.
However, the full development of the ASEAN Power Grid still faces challenges related to investment, infrastructure, regulatory frameworks, and cross-border grid governance. Strong collaboration among governments, private-sector players, and energy authorities across ASEAN will therefore be essential to develop the infrastructure and mechanisms needed to facilitate cross-border electricity trading.
BCPG’s participation in Asia Forum 2026 reflects the company’s commitment to sharing its energy expertise and regional perspectives, while supporting ASEAN’s transition toward a cleaner, more secure, and more efficient energy system. With its experience in renewable energy development and cross-border power projects, BCPG continues to contribute to greater regional energy connectivity and the development of a more integrated ASEAN energy landscape.
