SET Index Slides Amid Pressure Over US Bond Yields and Energy Prices

On Tuesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,596.27 points, showing a decrease of 6.10 points or 0.38%, with a trading value of THB 42.28 billion.

Pi Securities noted that the Thai stock market saw a slight decline in early trading, following a move into negative territory as external factors continued to exert downward pressure. The acceleration in yields of U.S. government bonds has put stress on sentiment, influenced by the persistently high U.S. debt levels. At the same time, inflation and rising oil prices are further weighing on the investment climate in global equity markets.

Foreign investment flows were negative on Monday, with net sales totaling nearly THB 4 billion. The brokerage highlighted that outflows are likely to persist today as the Thai baht continues to depreciate, triggering selling pressure in bank stocks, particularly KBANK.

Meanwhile, KCE rallied on positive company-specific factors and led to strong gains within the electronics component sector, with the exception of DELTA, which helped partially support the index.

For the afternoon session, the index is expected to remain in negative territory, with support estimated at 1,588 points and resistance at 1,610 points.

The five securities with the highest trading value are as follows:

  • KBANK: trading value THB 3.97 billion, closing at THB 246.00, down THB 6.00 or 2.38%
  • DELTA: trading value THB 3.78 billion, closing at THB 260.00, up THB 1.00 or 0.39%
