SET Index Tumbles as Banking and Electronics Sectors Lead Losses

On Wednesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,562.83 points, showing a decrease of 31.47 points or 1.97%, with a trading value of THB 68.51 billion.

Land and Houses Securities (LHS) stated that the Thai stock market saw a sharper-than-expected decline in the morning session, pressured by continued fund outflows. Foreign investors were net sellers on Tuesday, offloading shares worth THB 7.68 billion, which turned the cumulative figure negative.

The morning’s decline was primarily led by the banking sector, which sees significant foreign ownership, as well as the electronics components sector, which initially opened in positive territory but later reversed into losses. The fund outflows were observed both domestically and internationally, as investors reduced their risk exposure in response to persistently high U.S. government bond yields.

The rapid market downturn has prompted many investors to cut risk, resulting in losses across nearly all major sectors in the Thai bourse. However, the soft commodity sector, particularly rubber stocks, continued to attract buying interest due to specific catalysts.

Looking ahead to the afternoon session, LHS recommends close monitoring of the key support level at 1,560 points. If the index remains above this threshold, sideways movement is expected, while investors await the release of the U.S. PCE data tonight.

The specified trading range for the index is with support at 1,560 points, a secondary support at 1,550 points, and resistance between 1,575 and 1,580 points.
