U.S. Jobless Claims Continue to Recover on Week Leading to Christmas

New U.S. jobless claims for the week ended December 25, 2021, fell to a seasonally adjusted 198,000 from a revised 206,000 a week earlier while remaining at the lower level since the Covid-19 outbreak in March 2020. The reading was lower than the forecast polled by Reuters at 208,000 claims for the week leading up to Christmas.

Based on the data, it appears that the new Covid-19 omicron variant has yet to impact the U.S. job market that is on track to recover from the Covid-19 shock.
