Thailand Begins Hunt for Next Central Bank Governor as Sethaput’s Term Nears End

The search for Thailand’s next central bank governor is set to commence as the selection committee plans to begin accepting applications for the position next week, according to an official statement on Thursday.

This move comes in anticipation of the current Governor, Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, completing his term in September after five years of service.

The application window will span from May 13 to June 4.

Under Thai law, the committee is mandated to present at least two shortlisted candidates to the finance minister no later than 90 days before the current governor’s term concludes.

The selection committee is expected to propose the shortlisted candidates for the new central bank governor by July 2

The final selection for governor will be subject to the approval of both the cabinet and the royal council.
