Thailand Records 22 Million Foreign Arrivals up to September amid Gov’t Stimulus to Boost Tourism

Mr. Sorawong Thienthong, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, stated that from January 1 – August 31, 2025, the nation welcomed 21.87 million foreign tourists, a 7.16% decrease YoY, and generated revenue of THB 1.01 trillion from their spending, a 5.4% decrease YoY. The top five tourist groups during this period were from China (3.09 million), Malaysia (3.04 million), India (1.56 million), Russia (1.19 million), and South Korea (1.03 million).

As for the tourist situation last week (August 25 – 31), more than a hundred thousand of Malaysians came to Thailand during their Independence Day, which is a long national public holiday. However, the number of tourists from other markets were declining due to the end of summer holiday season. Still, this is considered as a normal circumstance.

Last week, there were 506,115 foreign tourists entering Thailand, or about 72,302 people per day. Compared to the previous week, this number has decreased by 56,755 visitors or about 10.8%. The top five tourist groups during this period were from Malaysia (100,600), China (70,847), Russia (37,402), India (24,749), and Japan (20,024). The number of Malaysian tourists had increased by 27.24% compared to the previous week, while the number of Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and Indian tourists had decreased by 27.21%, 23.95%, 17.63%, and 12.23% respectively.

The traffic for this week (September 1-7) is expected to remain stable amid ongoing support measures such as Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism and Sports Year 2025, tourism and sport events, government’s Ease of Traveling measure that increase the convenience in traveling to Thailand, the canceling of TM 6 immigration form, and the stimulus and support measures that increase the frequency of airline flight.
