SRTA Partners with Unisus Green Energy, Aiming to Transform 1,200 Rai Bang Sue Area into ‘Model Smart City’

Unisus Green Energy Company Limited, Thailand’s first and leading expert in private district utility design and implementation, and SRT Asset Company Limited (SRTA), the asset management arm of the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly conduct a feasibility study for developing central utility plants (CUP) in the Bang Sue development project over an area of more than 1,200 rai. The study’s objective is to transform the area into a model smart city that facilitates maximum energy efficiency and serves as Bangkok’s transportation hub.

This signing is a crucial milestone in the development of the “Bang Sue Smart City,” a project which SRTA plans to undertake with a total investment value exceeding 200 billion Thai baht. This collaboration focuses on the exchange of data and expertise to conduct the feasibility study for the essential infrastructure needed for a modern smart city, including district cooling plants designed for air conditioning, accompanied with thermal energy storages (TES) for efficient energy use.

Additionally the scope of study covers smart water management systems, wastewater collection and treatment systems, electrical systems and clean energy, integrated solid waste management systems, fire protection systems, disaster warning systems, emergency response plans, and a smart energy management center.

Unisus Green Energy is a joint venture between three giants in the real estate, engineering, and energy sectors: Magnolia Quality Development Corporation (MQDC), EEC Engineering Network, and B.Grimm. Under this agreement with SRTA, Unisus Green Energy is committed to preparing the development concept for the central utility plant, conducting initial technical and financial feasibility studies, and formulating project development plans to SRTA.

Mr. Kamol Tanpipat, Chief Executive Officer of Unisus Green Energy Co., Ltd., stated, “It is a great honor for Unisus Green Energy to have received SRTA’s trust in developing the feasibility study of the central utility plants (CUP) in Bang Sue Smart City. We recognize the importance of CUPs and energy-efficiency when discussing smart city projects. The implementation of an efficient utility system can significantly reduce energy consumption, environmental impact, and carbon emissions within the project.

We are ready to utilize our expertise gained from providing comprehensive services in developing CUPs within Thailand’s large developments, where Unisus Green Energy is responsible for planning, construction supervision, engineering services, system deployment, and long-term operation. We are confident that we are able to apply our knowledge and experience to study and propose the best practices to SRTA for the further development of the project.”

Mr. Kasabol Bowonsrikan, Deputy Managing Director of Business Division, acting as Managing Director, SRT Asset Co. Ltd. revealed, “This isn’t just a written agreement, but a strategic alliance between a state enterprise and a leading private company to drive the development of the 1,200-rai Bang Sue mega-project into the country’s economic and transportation hub. The development of modern, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly infrastructure is critical in attracting both foreign and Thai investors. Moving forward, both organizations will conduct on-site studies to drive SRTA’s Bang Sue Smart development plan.”

The partnership between Unisus Green Energy and SRTA opens opportunities for new investment models, such as Joint Ventures, where SRTA can contribute to the long-term value of the land by developing and maintaining central utility plants (CUPs) with a long service life. The goal is to transform the Bang Sue area into a quality community where people can live and work conveniently, safely, and energy-efficiently, creating value for investors, entrepreneurs, and the general public. Given the potential of both organizations, this cooperation marks a significant step forward for the Bang Sue area, which is poised to become the ‘New Smart City of Thailand’.
