Thailand August Exports Rise 24.3% as Demand For Electronics Parts Support Growth

Thailand’s exports processed through customs surged 24.3% in August from the same month a year earlier, the Commerce Ministry said Friday. The result was marginally under the 24.9% gain expected by analysts in a Reuters survey, but above July’s 21.6% expansion.

Imports also grew sharply, advancing 25.1% year on year in August. The country reported a trade shortfall of $2.48 billion for the month, smaller than the $3.9 billion deficit projected in the poll.

Demand from major markets remained strong. Shipments to the United States, Thailand’s biggest export destination, rose 48.7% from August last year, while sales to China increased 15.5%, according to the ministry.

The Trade Policy and Strategy Office added that Thailand’s exports could increase 15% for the full year as demand for electronics linked to global artificial intelligence trends continues to support growth.
