Asian Stocks Trade Lower ahead of US Inflation Data

Stocks in Asian markets traded lower in the morning session on Thursday as investors were cautious ahead of the release of the U.S.

As of 9:44 local time in BKK, Nikkei fell 0.53%, Shanghai Composite dropped 0.25%, Hang Seng Index plunged 1.16%, Kospi slipped 1.15%.

Thailand’s SET Index closed for the holiday.

Economists expect U.S. inflation for September to slow down to 8.1% YoY and a slight drop from 8.3% in August.

However, core inflation is expected at 6.5% YoY, an increase from 6.3% in the previous month.

Analysts stated that the direction of the SET Index next week will depend on the U.S inflation. If the data came out higher than 8.1%, the Thai stock market could edge lower.
