Naruechon Dhumrongpiyawut, CEO of Gunkul Engineering Public Company Limited (SET: GUNKUL), announced that the company has been entrusted by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) to construct a 500-kilovolt (500kV) high-voltage transmission line spanning 37 kilometers, from Banglamung 2 high-voltage substation in Chonburi Province to Pluak Daeng high-voltage substation in Rayong Province.
The project will be executed via a joint venture between GUNKUL’s subsidiary, Future Electrical Control Co., Ltd. (FEC), and China National Heavy Machinery Corporation Ltd. (CHMC), with a total value of THB 675,144,143. The project encompasses procurement of equipment both domestically and internationally, as well as comprehensive transport and installation.
The electrical engineering procurement and construction (EPC) business is one of GUNKUL’s three core segments, showcasing the company’s expertise and capability to construct transmission lines at all voltage levels.
Notably, the 500 kV transmission line constitutes the highest voltage transmission system in Thailand and is a key component of the national grid, demanding advanced, specialized engineering capabilities.
GUNKUL is confident in its ability to complete the project efficiently and within the specified timeline. Upon completion, the project will reinforce the region’s electricity distribution capacity and enhance the security of energy supply, especially within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC)—a vital area for Thailand’s economic development with rapidly expanding industrial electricity demand.
Furthermore, this initiative supports the transition towards a digital energy network, increasing access to clean energy for entrepreneurs striving to achieve Net Zero emissions.
GUNKUL expresses gratitude to EGAT for trusting the company’s experience and expertise in delivering crucial advanced energy infrastructure, pivotal to strengthening Thailand’s economic potential.
Teerawut Wetatham, Deputy Governor for Transmission System Development at EGAT, added that EGAT’s mission is to generate, procure, and distribute electricity to support economic growth and enhance the quality of life for Thais.
The Banglamung 2 – Pluak Daeng 500 kV network project forms part of efforts to upgrade the Eastern region’s transmission system, which is essential for business and industrial zones.
This project, connecting Banglamung 2 substation in Chonburi to Pluak Daeng substation in Rayong over a distance of 37.34 kilometers, will help solve stability issues, boost power transmission capacity, and make the electricity supply more efficient and widespread.
