BTG Surges 4% as Business Remains Unaffected by Thailand-Cambodia Unrest

On Tuesday, the share price of Betagro Public Company Limited (SET: BTG) at the time of 11:13 a.m. was at THB 19.10, a THB 0.70 or 3.80% increase with a total trading value of THB 86.63million.

Worrawut Vanitkulbodee, Chief Operating Officer of BTG’s International Business, told “Kaohoon” that due to recent border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia, the company is highly concerned about the welfare and safety of its employees and local residents in affected areas.

Although recent negotiations between Thai and Cambodian officials have led to an immediate ceasefire agreement, tensions and uncertainty persist, making it imperative to closely monitor developments. BTG is hopeful that normalcy will be restored along the border soon.

Currently, BTG’s revenue derived from Cambodia accounts for around 4-5% of its overall business, so the company assesses the direct impact to be limited. Nevertheless, BTG has a robust business continuity plan in place to respond to emergencies and has implemented appropriate measures according to the escalation level.

Worrawut noted that BTG’s operational sites in Cambodia are situated far from the conflict zone, resulting in no physical damage to company assets. Additionally, BTG’s core food business is considered one of the four basic necessities, playing a vital role in both the economy and society, thus underscoring the critical need to maintain uninterrupted operations to meet fundamental human needs.

He further revealed that BTG has evacuated all its Thai employees working in Cambodia back to Thailand as a precautionary measure, prioritizing their safety. The company has also devised supply chain management strategies to ensure there are no disruptions in the transportation of raw materials, such as sourcing from alternative suppliers in Vietnam and shifting from land to sea routes where necessary.

With these proactive emergency and operational management plans, BTG’s business in Cambodia continues as usual. Over its years of operations in the country, BTG has successfully developed local Cambodian talent into competent managers across various functions, enhancing the organization’s ability to maintain smooth and continuous operations even amid challenging circumstances.
