SET Index Declines as Key Sectors Face Pressure from Strong Baht

Mr. Kitpon Praipaisarnkit, Senior Executive Vice President at UOB Kay Hian Securities (Thailand), stated that the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closed the morning session lower by 0.42%, or 5.28 points, to 1,259.49 points, due to a lack of index driving factors.

The market remains concerned about the impact of the strengthening baht, which continues to pressure the electronics components sector and is further weighed down by increasing copper costs.

Meanwhile, the retail and financial sectors have also dropped on concerns that there may not be policy support for the economy at the end of this year and early next year. Furthermore, the financial sector is worried that the downward interest rate cycle is near its end, resulting in no positive factors relating to financial costs.

Today’s trading volume remains thin, even with two trading days left before the New Year holiday closure, as some investors have already taken a break. Additionally, some foreign stock markets are still closed for Boxing Day.

For the afternoon session, the index is expected to remain stable, with no negative pressure. This week, the market looks for a potentially positive outcome from the General Border Committee (GBC) meeting between Thailand and Cambodia. If a ceasefire agreement is reached, it may positively affect the Thai stock market. The support level is set at 1,250 points, and resistance at 1,280 points.
