Market Roundup 5 August 2026

Thailand’s SET Index closed at 1,609.78 points, decreased 7.35 points or 0.45%, with a trading value of THB 90.13 billion. The analyst stated that the Thai market declined after having surged in early trading, as selling pressures from the telecommunication sector—particularly TRUE—as well as PTTEP and DELTA, weighed on the benchmark.

Furthermore, a potential rotation of fund flow toward growth stocks also brought the Thai bourse lower, as opposed to other Asian markets that trended higher.

For tomorrow, the analyst expects the Thai market to move sideways within range.

The Thai Trade Policy and Strategy Office announced that Thailand’s Consumer Price Index for July 2026 was 102.10, up from 100.15 in the same month last year. This marks a 1.95% increase in headline inflation year-on-year, slowing from a 2.42% rise in June.

The main contributors to this inflation rate were persistently high domestic fuel prices, a result of the ongoing Middle East conflict, which also led to higher public transportation fares. Ready-to-eat food prices also rose across the board, driven by increasing costs of food ingredients.

Following the circulation of a video on social media regarding the conduct of security personnel at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK), the airport confirms that disciplinary action has been taken against the personnel involved and sincerely apologizes for the incident.

While the security officers’ intervention was intended to ensure the safety and security of passengers and flight operations, Suvarnabhumi Airport acknowledges that certain security personnel displayed inappropriate conduct during the operation.
