SET Index Slides as Global Tech Rout Dents Sentiment

On Wednesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,613.55 points, showing a decrease of 8.07 points or 0.50%, with a trading value of THB 68.36 billion.

Bualuang Securities (BLS) noted that in the morning session, the Thai bourse declined in line with global stock markets, including U.S. equities overnight and other Asian markets, which also saw selling pressure in the technology sector. Additionally, U.S. bond yields have risen, further pressuring stocks, but the brokerage views this as primarily profit-taking following the recent rally.

Compared to international markets, the Thai market did not experience a sharp decline. The SET Index faced downward pressure due to selling in DELTA, which mirrored movements in global technology stocks, and TTB, which came under selling pressure from company-specific factors.

Nonetheless, the dip was moderate, as buying interest in other sectors helped cushion the fall. Sectors supporting the market included banking, agriculture, and hospitals, with investors engaging in speculative trading ahead of analyst meetings hosted by several listed companies.

For the afternoon session, the outlook suggests the Thai index will likely remain in negative territory. Investors are recommended to monitor Japanese inflation figures for further insight into interest rate trends. Domestically, attention is focused on the government’s policy initiatives, particularly updates on the new Power Development Plan (PDP).

The Thai market is expected to find support at 1,610 points and resistance at 1,630 points.
