SCG Packaging Public Company Limited (SET: SCGP) has informed the Stock Exchange of Thailand that the company has announced the expansion of production capacity in plasterboard liner at its existing facility in Thailand in order to strengthen market leadership in high-value product lines, enhance capability to serve growing demand and customers’ requirements in the region, and grow strategically alongside customers.
The investment will be made through Siam Kraft Industry Company Limited (or SKIC), a 100%-owned subsidiary of SCGP in Kanchanaburi. The THB 9,846 million investment budget will be made on a phased basis, covering machinery, installation, and working capital for an additional capacity of 400,000 tons per year, with commercial start-up expected in 4Q28.
This expansion will enable SCGP to capture growing regional demand for plasterboard liner, a specialized grade of paper used in gypsum board production that requires advanced manufacturing technology and expertise, resulting in a limited number of producers. Demand for gypsum boards continues to trend upward, supported by increasing adoption of lightweight construction materials globally.
The new, state-of-the-art machine offers high flexibility, capable of producing both plasterboard liner and premium linerboard. This will support currently full utilization of SCGP’s existing operations in Thailand and Vietnam, enabling SCGP to optimize its product mix in response to market conditions and maximize asset utilization.
The investment will help SCGP maintain its market-leading position in the region and support sustainable strategic growth alongside its customers, while the company continues to pursue business growth opportunities through mergers and partnerships to further strengthen its regional presence.
