SET Index Rises on Large-Cap Buying, Concerns Ease Over US Interest Rate Path

On Friday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,588.82 points, showing an increase of 11.90 points or 0.75%, with a trading value of THB 35.85 billion.

Kasikorn Securities (KS) noted that the Thai stock market advanced during the morning session, in line with gains seen in international markets, which were trading sideways-up. This positive movement was driven by buying interest in large-cap stocks, particularly DELTA and GULF.

A key factor supporting the market was the easing of concerns over the direction of U.S. interest rates after a Federal Reserve Governor indicated support for maintaining rates at the upcoming September meeting, should data show that inflationary pressures are starting to ease. The U.S. Fed is scheduled to meet on September 15-16, 2026.

Looking ahead to next week, the U.S. Department of Labor is set to release the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and Producer Price Index (PPI). The brokerage anticipates the Federal Reserve will hold interest rates steady at its upcoming meeting.

On the domestic front, today marks the inaugural meeting of the National Data Center Policy Committee, expected to offer clarity regarding regulations on water and electricity usage for data center businesses in Thailand.

For the afternoon session, Kasikorn anticipates the market to trade sideways as investors await the release of U.S. non-farm payroll data. Market expectations are for job additions exceeding 55,000; should the figure fall short, it would likely have a positive impact on the Thai stock market, supporting gains on Monday.

Technical guidance places support at 1,565 points and resistance at 1,590 points.
