SET Index Edges Down on Large-Cap Selling, While Investors Assess US Election Results

On Wednesday, Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning trading session at 1,489.66 points, showing a decrease of 1.35 points or 0.09%, with a trading value of THB 41.03 billion.

Maybank Securities (Thailand) wrote that the Thai stock market declined in the early morning session, following the downward trend in Asian equities and U.S. futures, with investors adjusting their portfolios.

This came after preliminary results from the U.S. midterm elections indicated that the Democratic Party was likely to secure a majority in both houses of Congress, which may impose greater constraints on President Donald Trump’s policy initiatives.

Despite remaining in negative territory amid heavy selling in large-cap stocks, particularly ADVANC, as well as energy stocks, the index saw buying support late in the morning session, helping it rebound.

Looking ahead to the afternoon, Maybank anticipates that the Thai stock market will move sideways, with the support level estimated at 1,480 points and resistance at 1,500 points.

The five stocks with the highest trading value were as follows:
