Chinese autonomous driving startup Momenta has entered into a strategic partnership with Singapore-based ride-hailing giant Grab, the companies announced on Thursday. The agreement marks another step in Momenta’s overseas expansion, a trend gaining momentum among Chinese self-driving technology players as Beijing encourages its firms to seek global leadership in the sector.
As part of the deal, Grab has provided Momenta with a strategic investment of an undisclosed amount, according to Thursday’s joint statement.
The announcement follows a string of recent international initiatives from Momenta. Earlier this month, the startup, alongside Mercedes-Benz and UAE taxi company Lumo, launched a robotaxi service in Abu Dhabi. In September, Momenta also revealed a collaboration with Uber to begin robotaxi trials in Munich, Germany, slated for 2026.
Momenta stands with peers Pony AI and WeRide as a leading Chinese company expanding aggressively abroad, reflecting China’s ambitions for its autonomous driving sector to establish a strong global footprint.
