Regarding the airplane crash in India yesterday, the authority has confirmed that there was only one survivor from flight, with more updates on the way.
Yesterday in Ahmedabad, India, Air India’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, headed to Gatwick Airport in the U.K., crashed into the hostel mess of BJ Medical College after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
Of the 242 people on board Flight AI171, only one survived miraculously. According to the local senior police officer, a 40-year-old British citizen, Ramesh Viswashkumar, was sitting near an emergency exit on the plane and managed to jump out.
Other sources stated when the airplane split in two, he was thrown out before the explosion. Whatever the case is, Viswashkumar is being treated at the hospital at the moment.
As for the casualty figure on the ground, the official has not confirmed yet. The crash happened during lunch break when several people were there. So far, The Federation of All India Medical Association confirmed 7 fatalities, and 60+ injured, while some people remain missing.
This incident is considered the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade and the Dreamliner’s first crash.
