Mr. Ras Chaleechan, Assistant Minister to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, delivered an official statement responding to recent comments made by Samdech Hun Sen, President of the Cambodian Senate, who live-streamed criticisms against the Thai government and Thailand on June 27, 2025.
Mr. Ras asserted that both the latest and previous remarks from the former Cambodian leader constitute clear interference in Thailand’s internal affairs. He further emphasized that these comments were accusatory in nature and aimed to undermine the stability of the Thai government with the intention of instigating political change. Such behavior, he stressed, violates the principles of international law and is inconsistent with the core tenets of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Regarding Hun Sen’s accusation that Thailand is “the main hub of regional illegal organized crime,” Mr. Ras clarified that such information originated from international agencies such as the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), independent human rights organizations like Amnesty International, leading global news outlets, and major allied nations. He pointed out that these allegations are not directly associated with the Thai government. Therefore, if Cambodia wishes to dispute these findings, it should address its concerns directly with the original sources and international agencies, rather than responding through attacks on Thailand.
Additionally, Mr. Ras commented on other critical remarks from Cambodian officials, stating that both the international community and informed individuals are fully capable of discerning the truth on their own. From his perspective, he felt that these accusations were largely baseless and not deserving of any further official response.
