Rabbit Life Insurance Public Company Limited, also known as Rabbit Life, a subsidiary of BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited (SET: BTS) has revealed that more than 13.4 million Thais, or nearly one in five of the population, are facing mental health challenges, with working-age individuals increasingly vulnerable to stress caused by heavy workloads. In response, the company has launched its new ‘Mental Health’ insurance plan, in line with the growing focus on mental well-being.
Developed under the concept ‘Caring for your mind, so you can smile’, this supplementary plan addresses a major pain point for consumers by providing protection against the high and ongoing costs of psychiatric care. Coverage includes inpatient benefits of up to 250,000 baht per year, outpatient benefits of up to 4,000 baht per visit, and a lump-sum payout of up to 500,000 baht for severe psychiatric illnesses.
Premiums start from an average of just 6 baht per day. The plan is designed to complement existing health insurance packages such as Health Smile or Health Protect, ensuring comprehensive protection for both body and mind. This reflects Rabbit Life’s vision of leading the new-generation insurance market with a strategy of ‘Think differently to improve your life with a life insurance that hedges your bets and provides simplified solutions.’
Mr. Korn Chinsawananon, Managing Director of Rabbit Life Insurance, “In today’s world, stress has become society’s silent epidemic. Mental health challenges are no longer a private matter; they are directly impacting quality of life, workplace productivity, and a whole economy. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 970 million people globally are living with mental health issues, reflecting a situation that aligns closely with Thailand. Data from the Institute for Population and Social Research of Mahidol University shows that in 2025, more than 13.4 million Thais – nearly one in five of the population – are affected by mental health problems or psychiatric disorders. Meanwhile, a survey by the College of Management, Mahidol University, revealed that over 65% of working-age individuals experience poor mental well-being due to stress. This is commonly expressed through symptoms such as chronic stress, reluctance to go to work, burnout, and disengagement from workplace participation.”
While, The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Labor Organization (ILO) have also estimated that depression and anxiety alone are causing the global economy to lose around 1 trillion US dollars annually in labor productivity. This is equal to approximately 12 billion working days lost each year. For Thailand, mental health problems among the working population are becoming more severe, particularly in urban and office-based workers who face intense pressure from performance targets, long working hours, and poor work-life balance. The result is not only reduced quality of life for individuals but also increased costs for organizations, including staff turnover, recruitment, and rising healthcare benefit expenses.”
Rabbit Life, as a leading insurer for the new generation, is driving its business with a vision that embraces a holistic understanding of modern life. In addition to its expertise in life protection, the company is expanding into comprehensive well-being coverage, particularly mental health, which though invisible, has a profound impact on quality of life, because we believe that caring for both mental and physical health is key to quality living. That is why we developed the ‘Mental Health’ insurance product, providing a reliable option for people to manage burnout effectively and sustainably. This product closes the gap in psychiatric care, which is often costly and requires ongoing treatment. It is designed for office employees, heads of households, and anyone seeking protection for psychiatric care costs,” Mr. Korn explained.
The supplementary plan Mental Health is developed under the concept ‘Caring for your mind, so you can smile.’ It provides holistic protection for both body and mind and can be combined with main health plans such as Health Smile or Health Protect to expand coverage in line with individual needs and lifestyles. Premiums start at an average of just 6 baht per day, with inpatient (IPD) cover of up to 250,000 baht per year, outpatient (OPD) cover of up to 4,000 baht per visit, and a lump-sum payout of up to 500,000 baht for severe psychiatric conditions. Policyholders can also claim tax deductions on the premiums.
“At Rabbit Life, we are committed to developing a diverse range of products to meet the lifestyles and needs of every generation, whether for life security, physical health, or mental well-being. We believe that mental health is the foundation of a good quality of life. Our goal is to create life insurance that is easy to understand, complemented by fast, accessible, and convenient services, ensuring customers receive all-round care and can move forward with confidence at every stage of life,” Mr. Korn concluded
