Thai Baht Weakens in Early Trade as Korean Won Strengthens Against US Dollar

South Korea’s won firmed in early Asian trading on Monday, while the Thai baht and Philippine peso weakened slightly against the U.S. dollar.

The won traded at 1,389.60 per dollar, up from 1,390.3 in the previous session, extending gains that have lifted it nearly 6% year-to-date. The Taiwan dollar also inched higher to 30.283 per dollar.

In contrast, the baht eased to 31.78 from 31.71 per dollar, though it remains almost 8% stronger compared with the end of 2024. The peso slipped to 57.267 per dollar, while the Indonesian rupiah softened to 16,385.

The yen stood at 147.56 per dollar, the Singapore dollar at 1.282, and the Malaysian ringgit at 4.200, showing little change from the prior session but holding solid year-to-date gains. China’s yuan was steady at 7.123 per dollar.
