Mr. Natapon Khamthakrue, Assistant Managing Director of Securities Analysis at Yuanta Securities (Thailand), stated that the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closed higher this morning by 0.95%, or 12.00 points, to 1,268.69 points, driven by buying power in large-cap banking, upstream energy stocks, and sectors benefitting from reduced electricity costs—such as retail and hospitals.
DELTA also contributed around 4 points to the index. Domestically, the situation in flood-affected southern provinces has quickly improved, moving into the recovery phase.
For the afternoon session, the market is expected to trend sideways to sideways up. The index is testing the 1,270-point level, which is seen as a recovery opportunity, with resistance at 1,278 points and support at 1,264 points.
Mr. Weerawat Wirojphoka, Senior Director of FSS International Investment Advisory Securities (FSSIA), noted that the Thai stock market rose more strongly than expected this morning, despite a lack of clear supporting factors and lower-than-expected China Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) figures. However, the market anticipates that China may roll out economic stimulus measures, and ASEAN markets have also performed well.
Additionally, short-term Fund Flow may enter the domestic market, as on the previous Friday, foreign investors held Long positions in SET50 Futures. In the afternoon, there is a possibility the index will test the 1,275-point level, with resistance at 1,270-1,275 points; if surpassed, this would provide positive momentum, with support at 1,250 points.
