KH Legal Aid Spotlights Disaster Risk with Public Seminar on Non-Life Insurance Law

KH Academy recently advanced its commitment to societal development, a core tenet of ‘Kaohoon Turakij,’ by holding a KH Legal Aid seminar aimed at enhancing public legal literacy. The initiative, designed to help individuals understand their rights and obligations, also seeks to reduce legal risks and protect against fraud, which continues to be a significant concern in Thailand.

The latest KH Legal Aid session, held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, focused on ‘Lessons from the Great Flood: Understanding Non-Life Insurance Laws Before Risk Strikes.’ The event featured Mr. Wuttichai Phumsanguan, Provincial Public Prosecutor attached to the Office of the Attorney General, who provided insights on property and casualty insurance law, including coverage for floods, fires, earthquakes, and the emerging threats associated with climate change.

Drawing on recent flood events in Hat Yai, Songkhla—a region severely impacted—the seminar used these cases to illustrate best practices in filing insurance claims and maximizing benefits for policyholders. Mr. Wuttichai highlighted that while recent floods have made the value of insurance more apparent to the public, many policyholders remain unaware of the full extent of their coverage.

He cited specific instances, such as claiming expenses for protecting property from floodwaters and the availability of insurance policies that cover post-disaster home cleaning costs. Understanding claim processes, from documenting damage to prompt notifications to insurers, can help mitigate losses and distribute risk more effectively.

“The recent floods in Hat Yai and other southern provinces have underscored the importance of property and casualty insurance,” said Wuttichai. “Many policyholders overlook the details in their contracts and miss out on benefits. Educational seminars like this are particularly valuable as we navigate the challenges of climate change.”

Participants, such as Mr. Panthongtae Wangpratham, Financial Advisor at W Advisory, emphasized the relevance of non-life insurance law, noting its practical significance to daily life. He pointed out that understanding these laws equips individuals to better manage financial risks linked to unexpected disasters.

“Attending today’s session gave me a clearer understanding of non-life insurance law, which I can apply both professionally and personally,” Panthongtae said. “Now I have a better grasp of how to file claims and make proper use of insurance coverage. Most importantly, the seminar underlined the vital role insurance plays in safeguarding against unforeseen losses, which is something everyone should be mindful of.”
