Walmart Inc. has entered into a strategic collaboration with Alphabet Inc., bringing an AI-powered shopping experience to users on Google’s Gemini platform.
The initiative, which is part of Walmart’s broader plan to expand artificial intelligence capabilities throughout its business, aims to provide shoppers with a more streamlined, tailored, and anticipatory retail journey.
According to David Guggina, chief e-commerce officer at Walmart US, consumers will soon be able to browse and purchase available products—including apparel, consumables, entertainment, and food—through Gemini’s web browser and mobile application. Customers will also have the opportunity to seek advice and product suggestions from Gemini’s AI features, enhancing their decision-making process.
The new service will enable shoppers to build a shopping basket and complete purchases directly within the Gemini ecosystem, with Walmart managing order fulfillment for items sourced from both Walmart and Sam’s Club locations.
In parallel, Walmart is also developing capabilities that allow customers to conduct transactions through ChatGPT via a separate partnership with OpenAI.
