U.S. President Donald Trump has indicated that the United States is weighing possible military responses to Iran following increasing reports of violent reprisals against demonstrators protesting the government.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday, Trump responded to questions regarding whether Iran had breached his stated warning against the use of lethal force on protestors. “They’re starting to, it looks like,” Trump observed, signaling that the situation may have crossed his earlier “red line.”
Trump added that the administration is “very seriously” assessing the developments in Iran. “The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options. We’ll make a determination,” he said.
According to Trump, Iranian officials have reached out, requesting negotiations in the wake of his warnings of potential military intervention. “A meeting is being set up,” he confirmed, but also cautioned that “we may have to act before a meeting.”
