US Urges Citizens to Exit Iran ahead of Nuclear Talks in Oman

The U.S. government has issued a security alert for all U.S. citizens in Iran, citing ongoing increased security measures, road closures, public transportation disruptions, and widespread internet blockages across the country.

U.S. citizens in Iran have been advised to consider departing immediately, preferably by land routes to Armenia or Türkiye, if safe to do so, as reliance on U.S. government assistance cannot be guaranteed. The advisory also instructs those unable to leave to find a secure location, maintain supplies of food, water, and essentials, and avoid public demonstrations.

The warning comes just before anticipated nuclear negotiations in Oman between U.S. and Iranian officials, after a period marked by strained relations. President Donald Trump has recently warned Tehran of possible military consequences if the country does not make a deal on nuclear weapons and end its crackdown on domestic protests.

The most recent official talks between the two countries took place in April 2025. Before the meeting in May was about to begin, Israel carried out a series of strikes inside Iran, triggering a 12-day conflict that saw U.S. involvement targeting Iran’s top nuclear sites. While Trump stated Iran’s nuclear program was decimated, Iranian officials insisted their program remains intact.
