Microsoft announced plans Wednesday to allocate $50 billion toward advancing artificial intelligence in the Global South by 2030, underscoring its commitment at an AI summit in New Delhi attended by industry and government leaders.
The Global South, which refers to developing and emerging economies in regions including the southern hemisphere—such as Thailand—remains a key focus for Microsoft’s global AI expansion efforts. Last year, the company committed $17.5 billion in AI-related investments in India, aiming to strengthen its footprint in rapidly digitizing markets.
As for Thailand, Microsoft’s initiatives include a $1 billion investment in a new data center and AI training for over 100,000 people in 2024. The company has also teamed with local partners such as Charoen Pokphand Group, True Corporation PCL (SET: TRUE), Gulf Development PCL (SET: GULF), and Advanced Info Service PCL (SET: ADVANC) in 2025 to help build cloud and digital infrastructure, further integrating clean energy solutions and supporting Thailand’s ambitions for digital growth.
