Ms. Sinatta Kiewkhong, Director of Investor Relations and Sustainability, BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited, participated in the panel discussion titled “Sustainable Railways in the 2030s” at the GTRA Ordinary General Meeting 2026, held at the Embassy of Germany in Thailand. The discussion provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives with representatives from various government agencies and organisations on the role of rail transport in sustainable urban and transport development, including the importance of designing transport systems that consider accessibility for all groups in order to reduce inequality and create equal access to mobility.
During the discussion, perspectives were also shared on the role of rail systems in reducing air pollution and alleviating urban traffic congestion. To date, the BTS SkyTrain has provided more than 4.5 billion passenger trips and has played a significant role in avoiding more than 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent.
In addition, the integration of different transport modes to enable seamless mobility, together with the promotion of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), remains an important factor in supporting sustainable transport systems, particularly in developing communities where people can live, work, and access services within walking distance of transit stations.
At the same time, efficient maintenance management of rail systems not only helps reduce operating costs but also reduces pollution from unnecessary resource consumption. Furthermore, government endorsement of the Direct PPA policy would allow rail operators to directly access clean energy and will be a key mechanism in accelerating the transition towards low-carbon transport.
BTS Group believes that rail transport is a key Net-Zero Enabler and one of the important driving forces in supporting Thailand’s goal of achieving Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and is ready to support other urban development mechanisms. This includes encouraging all sectors to place greater importance on environmental protection and climate change mitigation in order to drive Thailand towards a truly low-carbon society.
