BTS Sees 20% Ridership Surge with Bangkok’s New One-Ticket Rail System

The upcoming launch of the integrated ticketing system for Bangkok’s rail mass transit, approved by the Cabinet and set to take effect at the beginning of next year, marks a transformative step for public transportation in the capital. With a single fare structure covering all operational rail lines and simplified entry fees, the Unified Ticketing Project is expected to make travel more accessible, reduce commuter costs, and significantly boost overall ridership across the city.

A key positive factor in the near future is the integrated ticketing system for Bangkok’s rail mass transit, following the Cabinet’s approval on June 23, 2026. The scheme sets a unified fare of 17–45 baht, covering all operational rail lines, with only a single entry fee, and is scheduled for implementation on January 1, 2027.

BTS Group Holdings Public Company Limited (SET: BTS) expects these measures will increase accessibility to public transportation, reduce travel costs, and potentially boost total ridership across the rail network by approximately 10–20%. This uptick is poised to generate further growth for BTS’ MIX businesses, particularly in advertising media and commercial retail ventures.

Additionally, the company is currently developing operational systems to support connectivity with the rail network, and is in discussions with government agencies on commercial frameworks, including revenue-sharing mechanisms, while complying with contractual and legal requirements.
