SET Index Falls as Mideast Tensions and Large-Cap Selloffs Weigh on Sentiment

Thailand’s SET Index closed the morning session on Friday at 1,476.53 points, exhibiting a decline of 13.20 points or 0.89%, with a trading value of THB 31.55 billion.

FSS International Investment Advisory Securities (FSSIA) noted that the Thai stock market experienced a slowdown during the morning session, mirroring the trend observed across other regional markets. The market was weighed down by ongoing uncertainties surrounding the conflict in the Middle East.

Investors are recommended to closely monitor developments in the coming week, with a new round of negotiations expected between the United States and Iran. Additionally, the recent surge in global crude oil prices, approaching the $100 per barrel mark, has emerged as a negative factor impacting overall sentiment.

Furthermore, the Thai bourse continues to face persistent selling pressure in shares of Delta Electronics (Thailand) (DELTA). Profit-taking activity was also seen among large-cap stocks, particularly in Advanced Info Service (ADVANC) and True Corporation (TRUE). This may prompt a shift in foreign capital flows, with an increased likelihood of funds moving from ASEAN equity markets to those in Taiwan and South Korea.

For the afternoon session, the outlook remains bearish, with the index expected to continue trading in negative territory. FSSIA forecasts the SET Index to fluctuate within a range of plus or minus 10 points, providing a support level at 1,470–1,466 points and a resistance level at 1,490–1,500 points.
