The United States and Iran have reportedly reached an arrangement to ease the American naval blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, paving the way for a phased reopening of the vital shipping lane since the initial closure at the end of February, according to Al Arabiya.
As per the report, there is an understanding of both the gradual resumption of maritime passage and the relaxation of restrictions. In the immediate term, vessels that had been held within the strait are expected to be released soon.
Earlier in the day, U.S. President Donald Trump remarked that negotiations with Iran had been productive, expressing optimism about a swift resolution to the ongoing conflict, while Tehran stated that it is reviewing a 14-point proposal put forth by Washington.
According to earlier reports from Reuters, which referenced a Pakistani official, the United States and Iran were close to finalizing an agreement in the form of a brief memorandum designed to bring an end to hostilities.
Axios has also reported that the draft deal would commit Iran to suspending its nuclear enrichment program, while the United States would lift sanctions, release Iranian financial assets that had been frozen, and allow for the restoration of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
